JB BLUE REMAIN UNBEATEN

The JB Blue Giants (7-0-1) took another step toward an undefeated season and secured first place overall with a 20-14 win over the Chilliwack Red Giants in a closely contested game that came down to a final goal-line stand.

The Red Giants had a late chance to punch the ball into the end zone, but were denied by the Blue Giants offence in the final minute.

Thijs Duinveld and Ryan Connolly scored touchdowns for the Red Giants in a losing effort, while Cory Armstrong provided strong inside running and Colton Derouin made a great interception.

Tristan Davis led the Red Giants offence, amassing a stunning 229 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries. Mario Brizuela, Hunter Larocque and Tyler Sprott also carried the ball for the Blue Giants. Braydon Winger and Darwin Biamonte led a Blue Giants offensive line that controlled the line of scrimmage and opened great holes for Davis.

BLUE BLANKS PEEWEE RED

In the peewee battle for Chilliwack, the Blue Giants defeated the Red Giants 25-0. The Blue Giants offence, shut out for the three previous weeks, got back on track with three touchdowns from running back Wyatt Uzick and another from Gabe Mannes.

A week after posting a decisive 28-0 victory over the Mission 9ers, the Red Giants offence, despite the outstanding efforts of running backs Ayden Harvey, Kobe Poole and Haden Orsachuk, was held off the scoresheet.

Passes were caught by Eric VanDerWerff and Noah Dubosoff for big gains but it was still not enough. The final score did not reflect the strong Red Giants defence. Drive after drive was stopped by a strong defensive line. The Red defence–thanks to strong plays from linebackers Ayden Harvey, Miguel Wood, Kobe Pool, Jonathon Zandberg and Moses Bird-Ortiz–was able to put up a great goal line stand, which stopped the Blues from scoring from within the five-yard line.

The game came down to two or three big plays set up by excellent blocks by Blue Giants linemen and backs including Jake Troyan, Emilio Pineda and Ethan Mastin. In addition to his 158-yard day running the ball, Uzick also had eight solo tackles and four assists on defence.

On defence the Blue Giants had outstanding performances by Michael Lengert (five tackles) and Emilio Pineda, Spencer Breslin, and Evan McCracken (four tackles each).

The win keeps the Blue Giants in 3rd spot and the Red Giants in 4th. Both teams will make the playoffs this year despite coming from the only association in the league that splits their talent into two teams.

BIG YARDS NOT ENOUGH

Jaylen Edwards rushed for 122 yards and scored two touchdowns but it wasn’t enough as the Chilliwack Atom Blue Giants fell 36-12 to the Meadow Ridge Gold Knights Saturday at Townsend Field.

Justin Crooks had a spectacular game on both sides of the ball and made great blocks for the running game. Andrew Locke led the defence with five solo tackles and seven assists.

“I think we really defeated ourselves,” said head coach Sean Dallas. ” We weren’t taking care of our own assignments. We did come together in the fourth quarter though and need to play like that the whole game.”

The Giants now sit at 3-6, with one game left to try and secure the fourth and final playoff position. They must defeat Mission this Saturday to continue to the postseason.
